Why We Love Summer Fruits

The fruits of summer! Strawberries, raspberries, peaches, nectarines, blueberries, plums, plucots, and cherries. Makes me very happy.

Fresh Ohio peaches Woolf Farms

Woolf Farms peaches from Ohio. We just let them ripen and eat them over the sink because they are so incredibly sweet and juicy.

Perfect peaches for baby hands

Perfect peaches for this little ones hands. She loved the peach so much that her Mom used a dishtowel to catch the peachy dribbles!

In addition to just enjoying fruits eaten out of hand, I’ve found a few delicious ways to use summer fruits, like grilling. Grilling fruits isn't a new. Can't remember exactly where I first enjoyed grilled peaches, but it was a dessert game changer. The peaches were grilled and served warm over a bed of dark greens, toasted pecans, dabs of goat cheese and drizzled with a fig vinaigrette.

Grilled Summer Fruit
This recipe for grilled plucots is one way to savor this stone fruit which is a cross between a plum and an apricot.

A summer fruit cobbler with blueberries, black raspberries and peaches is a family favorite. When these fruits are at their peak, I buy them at local farmers markets or visit a U-pick farm then freeze them for later use. They’re perfect in pies, cobblers, quick breads and smoothies.

Fruit crepes

I recently learned how to make crepes with my friend Penelope of Penelope’s Speaks French. Susan and I celebrated our birthday with a very special class in crepe making. Penelope, French teacher extraordinaire taught us in French and we had a blast.
