The Corner: Neighborhood Originals

What happens when you gather a group of creative and talented artisans in one space? Simply beautiful things happen! Welcome to The Corner in The Van Aken District in Shaker Heights, OH. This entrepreneurial venture is a collaboration of over 70 local makers who are able to sell their products while gaining exposure to the retail market sales channel.

The Corner is staffed by the actual makers seven days a week. It’s a collegial arrangement where vendors help each other by selling their products. As a small business, I’ve gained exposure to new customers and have been able to introduce shoppers to excellent locally made products. People are curious about the makers and being a host at The Corner allows us to meet and greet locals and visitors who are shopping, eating or just strolling in The Van Aken District.

What’s been most encouraging to me are the diverse array of talented makers who live and create in Northeast Ohio. The level of enthusiasm and willingness to help those who are exploring becoming “retail ready” is also a way to mentor and encourage new business owners. We are fortunate to have three experienced retail executives, Dave, Steve and Toni who share their expertise and guide the operation.

We exchange messages back and forth over a dedicated app. It also lets us schedule ourselves to host a shift during a month, or let us know when stock needs refreshing or a customer has a question about a product.

We Love Our Customers

Customers have told me they were surprised about the number of so many exceptional vendors and are glad to be able to buy products that are made locally. Repeat customers return monthly to see what’s new (vendors rotate) and to shop from brands they’ve come to love. It's always easy to spot a "regular" as they scope out what's new and fun.
